Canterbury Park announced in February that it is partnering with Minneapolis-based Swervo Development Corporation to build a 19,000-person outdoor concert venue in Shakopee. The city’s planning and development director announced that the project is moving forward and will be on the Shakopee Planning Commission agenda in August.
Canterbury Park Holding Company has a purchase agreement with Swervo Development for 40 acres; the land sale will become official this fall if the project continues to be approved. City Council approval will be the next step in the process. If the project does come to fruition, it would provide the Twin Cities with a venue unlike any in the area and put this amphitheater on the map as a must-visit for music lovers and performers alike.
